Holden and I have a set plan for road trips: He is the pilot and I’m his navigator, providing directions along with alternate routes in case of heavy traffic. (Of course, I’m also the operator of the radio and the keeper of travel snacks.) Our trips north to Lexington, KY were called “straight shots,” in that vast majority of the journey follows one interstate highway. But the so-called straight shot is fraught with heavy city traffic for the first two hours, and challenges with twisty and hilly mountain travel for the final hour. By the time we arrive, I’m always ready for a nice warm shower, to rinse away the tension and soothe cramped joints. Tonight’s outtake, along with the next several posts, are from August 2018, in a cute little apartment rental we found for the final college move-in trip we’d make with his son. ~C
