Profiles

Several of our family members are dealing with serious mobility issues, and so we try not to complain too much about our own rickety joints and aching muscles. Active weekends like this one, however, do tend to underscore the limitations that come with age — I’ll be 49 in August, and Holden’s 51st is in a few weeks — and serve as a reality check in terms of being smart about how much to test yourself, physically.

Which brings us to the trade-off, which was also in evidence this weekend. With age comes wisdom, and the foresight to do a bit of investigation before sailing into unfamiliar waters. Holden always drives for us, but I have proven myself to be quite a reliable navigator for him. We almost never take a wrong turn, and very rarely do we have an “Oh, I didn’t realize that” surprise moment when visiting a place for the first time. There is no way to overestimate the importance of planning ahead.

We hope you all have had as interesting a weekend as ours! Though perhaps you aren’t spending the last few hours of yours with cold packs or heating pads. 😉 ~C

Is that a long-winded way of saying you can’t make it up those stairs? 😉 Beautiful photo. I love how Holden has captured your pale skin against the dark wood 🙂 x

If there’s one thing our house has, it’s dark wood! 😉 Thanks for the kind words, but fortunately we were both still able to get up the stairs to bed… 🙂 ~C

To use a cliche, I feel your pain, but I must say the years have been absolutely wonderful to you. We did a bit of traveling into unfamiliar areas as well this weekend and we’d love to hear more about your adventures.

Thank you very much, you Sweetheart, you! We visited a new local cathedral of a sports facility on Friday night. Investigating things like directions, alternate routes, procedures, and policies in advance saved us from many of the headaches the other members of our group experienced! 🙂 ~C

A lovely photo. I love the starkness & shadows.
On to rickety joints – My solution after pushing a bit too hard – Hot Bath with Epsom Salts. Just soak the aches, pains & stiffness away. I always find that I wake up the next morning feeling better than I thought I would.
