Closing Time

Truth time: We went back and forth about whether or not to post this outtake for the finale of the August 2018 Lexington apartment series. We’ve mentioned previously about the awful way that 2022 ended for us — the long illness and eventual death of Holden’s mother, ongoing icy relations with some close family members, the busy season at H’s job, among other challenges — and we were both hitting the bottle pretty hard. Sometimes just to be able to forget things long enough to get to sleep at night.

But we have used the turning of a new year to reevaluate some bad habits, and we have both drastically curtailed our alcohol consumption over the past several weeks. So far, insomnia has been the biggest aggravation in terms of withdrawal symptoms, though we’re both sleeping much better once we do fall asleep. The benefits, however, are far outweighing the negatives, and we’re both feeling as healthy, alert, and happy as we’ve been in a long time.

Best wishes to you all… especially to those who are still reading these posts! 😉 ~C
